In the 1990's I worked very closely with Apple Computer and many other leading IT companies. I spent many hours at Appleworld in Stockley park, and attended, and delivered, more presentations than I can count.
At the time, I developed a reasonably reliable sixth-sense about the future impact of a new technology. Rather like an antique dealer who gets an instinctive 'ringing' sensation when they find a rare, precious, genuine and valuable antique, when seeing some new technology I would get this strange, bubbling, bizarely euphoric sensation when I saw or heard about a piece of new technology that would go on to make a huge impact.
I haven't had that feeling for a long time. Years in fact.
Until last week.
The Apple iPad is a massive milestone.
Here's my prediction:
In the future, when people look back at the demise of Print media and plot it's slide into oblivion from 2010 onwards, the moment they will identify as being the pivotal point in history, will be the launch of the iPad on January 27th 2010.
P.S. I don't have any shares in Apple. currently.
